Cardiac Rhythm Management/Electrophysiology

Electrophysiology testing is actually a variety of different procedures performed using long wire electrodes inserted into a vein in the top of the leg and advanced to the heart. These electrodes allow the cardiologist to learn more about the electrical system of the heart and possibly correct abnormal rhythms. To correct or prevent hearty rhythm problems, a cardiologist may choose to implant a pacemaker or defibrillator.

Cardiac Study Center provides dedicated comprehensive cardiac electrophysiology services for patients in the Pierce County and surrounding area. Michael P. Rome, M.D. and Tariq Salam, M.D. are both board certified in cardiovascular disease with added qualifications in the clinical cardiac electrophysiology.

Our services include the management of patients with supraventricular tachycardias with catheter ablation therapy for supraventricular tachycardias, atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, and some forms of ventricular tachycaridas. In addition, comprehensive device therapy through the use of implantable cardio-defibrillators for both the primary and secondary prevention of sudden cardiac death and cardiac resynchronization therapy, for the treatment of congestive heart failure, is provided with the dedicated expertise of Drs. Rome and Salam. This service is initially established through either inpatient or outpatient consultation providing comprehensive care with the education of patients, implantations, and follow up of devices. With the support of James C. Cook, M.D. and Vinay Malhotra, M.D., comprehensive pacemaker service is provided in the treatments of patients with atrial ventricular block and sick sinus syndrome.
Further services available at the Cardiac Study Center are evaluation of patients with syncope, family history of sudden cardiac death with familial disorders such as QT syndrome and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Through the support of our dedicated and fully staffed monitoring clinic we provide services for Holter monitoring, "King of Hearts" loop recorders, and transtelephonic monitoring of pacemakers and internet monitoring of implantable cardioverter defibrillators.
